![]() The new year kicks off and I immediately start thinking about prepping my skin for warmer weather. With age, I’ve found my face, arms and legs dry out even more, and therefore, the wrinkles, age spots, and imperfections really show. A few summers ago I spent a lot of time researching what I could do, at home, to make my skin more appealing and look less aging. I will share a few simple things I learned. If you are looking for glowing skin for Spring and Summer….Read on. Tremendous advances have been made over the last several years in the beauty industry. Products with a myriad of benefits for the skin are now readily available at a reasonable cost. Everything I am sharing, below, is in my personal arsenal of beauty must-haves and works fabulously for me. Everyone may not experience the same results as I do. You will have to comment and let me know if you use these products and how they work for you. I don’t worry so much over the winter month, since my skin is all covered. I am diligent with moisturizing and protecting my skin but not as focused on the appearance. January, that’s a whole different story. My regimen begins. So here we go. My routine is as follows. My first step is with my bath or shower. I use very gentle & moisturizing cleansers. One of my favorites is Olay, shown below. The photo is linked, and as an Amazon Associate I do earn commission off of products purchased through my links at no additional cost to the buyer. Each of the items I am sharing are available at most of your local drugstores, but I will link them all for convenience and ease. Simply click on the photo to see the products. My next step, after bathing, when my skin is still wet, is to use this fabulous scrubbing mitt in the photo below. The mitt remains dry, and you will turn off the shower of get out of the water. Simply rub your mittens hand, with light pressure, in circular motions all over the wet skin. This process takes some practice. I recommend being very gentle in the beginning. After one practice, you will see dead skin rolling off of your arms and legs. I have overdone it, in the beginning, and been very raw. I have, also, used this mitt with little results at the onset. You will find what technique and pressure works for you. It took me about 3 to 5 tries to get it just right. It is worth it! The benefit of this mitt is that you get a dry brush technique in which you’re improving blood flow - reducing the appearance of cellulite and you are sloughing off the dead skin all at once. I use this mitt once per week now, and my skin looks great. When you finish doing both arms and legs and anywhere else you wish to exfoliate, rinse off and soap up one more time to remove any remaining skin and toxins. I do not recommend this mitt on the face. I believe it is a bit too rough. As for the arms and legs….well, they are left silky smooth and so soft. As for exfoliating the back side of the body - this in-shower-towel comes in a 3 pack and is great for everyday use. This is my daily go-to wash cloth. these towels have been widely used in Asian countries for ages, due to their skin perfecting qualities. ![]() Next is an important part of the process. I use a body oil, in shower when I am still soaking wet, before I have towel dried. A great one that I have used, on and off for years is Neutrogena Lightweight Body Oil for Dry Skin, Sheer Moisturizer in Light Sesame Formula, shown and linked in the photo. I do make my own shower oil, as well. It’s very easy and makes enough for everyone in our house to use. I customize my oils for our needs and the scent to make sure it’s full of everything for beautiful skin. The recipe for my at home Shower Oil is as follows: 8 oz Almond oil 8 oz. Coconut oil 6 oz. Vit E a few gel caps popped open of each - Vit A and D 2 Tbsp Vegetable Glycerin 3 oz Rose water (skin soothing) 1 Tbs Castor oil or calendula (great for eczema or sensitive skin) The following oils are the ones that I use for our family’s skin care needs and the properties of healing, anti-aging and antioxidants. Many of these oils are used in skin care lines for their anti-aging and healing properties. Add or subtract essential oils based on your preference and your own needs. We have sensitive skin, eczema and other skin issues that these particular oils address. Additionally, our family loves this combination and the resulting scent. Keep in mind anytime essential oil is placed on the skin, the chance of sunburn is drastically increased, so be cautious and wear sunscreen when using essential oils. 10 drop Lavendar essential oil 10 drops Lemon essential oil (helps with dark spots) 10 drop Grapefruit or sweet orange essential oil 5 drops Helichrysum essential oil (improves lines and wrinkles-healing) 5 drops Frankincense (anti-aging and healing) 5 drops of Geranium essential oil (antioxidant, antibacterial, and astringent) 5 drops Bergamot essential oil (heals acne, improves skin rashes and helps with sleep) 5 drops Tea tree essential oil (healing, antibacterial and anti inflammatory) Blend everything well and pour into plastic, shower safe bottles. Simply lather up with the oil all over clean, wet skin and air dry or blot dry with a towel. You will find this mixture leaves the skin silky smooth, plump and smelling great. It is great for menopausal skin, eczema and other dry conditions. If you would like specifics of the items I use for this mixture, comment or message me. I am happy to share. Finally, post-shower, when I am ready to head out of the door, there are a few items that I love. For spider veins, on my legs I love to use arnica gel. Simply massage the arnica gel or cream into the veins and it will minimize them. If used over time, the appearance of the veins will gradually lessen. (I have also heard that helichrysum essential oil is great for this. I have not yet tested, but plan to this summer and I will write about my experience.) Arnica gel is great for bruising too. It will lessen the duration of a bruise and minimize the appearance. This gel and cream can be used anywhere on the body. It relieves inflammation and swelling as well. Arnica has been a long standing staple in holistic treatments. The Arnica gel that I prefer is featured below and linked from the photo. Another huge game changer for my skin’s appearance is leg makeup. I will link the Sally Hansen products from the photos, as well. I rub in these beautiful makeup/creams into any skin imperfections like age pots, white marks, veins, or bruises. They mask cellulite, imperfections, and even make my skin look tan. Love, love, love these products. To see all of my recommendations in one place, visit my Amazon Storefront.
